Of course the news media touts Mr. Melvin’s most memorable character as that of Sam the Butcher on the Brady Bunch show. He appeared in so many shows you can lose count and each role he made memorable. He was like ‘Mr. TV’. One of the actors you knew if he were part of the show, the show was safe to watch.
He played Sgt. Snorkel on the classic Beetle Bailey animated show. He was also in the ground breaking Sgt. Bilko series. He was Barney on All in the Family, and he was everywhere.
He was married to the same lady for 64 years. Can anyone top that one?
You have to hand it to Mr. Melvin. He made so many generations of people laugh and enjoy the arts and raise a family. Generations to come will still see his performances on record and me being a fan of the Banana Splits will miss my favorite Drooper but I’ll have the recordings and toys.
